Dutch Creek Forage Genetics is pleased to offer for sale the top nine bulls from our 2018 calf crop. While our primary enterprise is the production and sale of premium quality grass finished beef (no grain ever), we continue the practice of offering to the public each year only the extreme top end from the prior year's calf crop. The number of bulls we offer for sale is defined by one simple principle--to only offer bulls for sale that we would use in our own herd.
This year's offering consists entirely of half brothers, being sons of Dutch Creek Forager 816 308. Forager 308 and his progeny have the genetic profile to perform at an exceptionally high level in an all forage, primarily fescue environment. Unique to Forager 308 progeny is their ability to produce a choice grade carcass from Kentucky 31 fescue pastures. Phenotypically, 308 is uniquely structured to convert forage like no other bull we are aware of with his wide chest and massive heart girth. And if you're grazing fescue pastures, you'll really appreciate the slick hair coats of his progeny.
Dutch Creek has been breeding Angus cattle for 38 years. We insist on cows that produce a live calf every year in an all forage environment. We attempt to concentrate into our pedigrees the genetics of fertile, moderate framed females who have weaned in excess of 4 tons of live calves. And perhaps most importantly, at least here on our farm, is disposition. In our opinion there are no amount of desirable traits which can compensate for a bad disposition. As a result you will find the bulls in this year's offering exemplify our adherence to that principle.

Please give us a call with any questions you may have regarding this year's offering or better yet come by the farm at any time to have a look for yourself.

Forage Test
All bulls began a 140 day forage test on January 25, 2019 at which time they began grazing on stockpiled Kentucky 31 fescue pasture and were supplemented with second cutting fescue hay and 6 lbs of alfalfa pellets. It merits mention that the winter of 2019 in our part of Kentucky was the wettest on record, therefore pasture conditions were less than desirable due to the prevalence of mud throughout the test period.

Reference sire Dutch Creek Forager 816 308
CED: +8, BW: -7, WW: +50, YW: +95, MILK: +22, DOC: +35, FRAME SCORE: 4
Dutch Creek Forager 816 308 is the sire of each of the bulls selling. He is a truly unique bull in his ability to sire calves which perform exceptionally well in a low input, total forage environment. 308 measures a massive 100 inch heart girth, while measuring 90 inches poll to pins, which is exactly what you're looking for in a high efficiency, forage converting bull. Even more impressive is Forager 308's ability to flourish in a Kentucky 31 fescue environment. He and his progeny have exceptionally slick hair coats and seem to handle hot, humid summer days better than most Angus bloodlines. The extended pedigree of 308 contains more than 200 Pathfinder Angus cows including his dam and grand dam, and he traces 28 times to Luria of Wye reg #4020176, one of the most productive and efficient Angus cows to have ever lived. All who have seen 308 agree that his pictures do not accurately depict his sheer power and muscle mass and find it surprising that he is an easy calving bull.

Crandell of Wye UMF 7883 reg # 12752801
Crandell of Wye UMF 7883 was a cornerstone sire in the Dutch Creek herd who excelled in his ability to perform in a fescue environment. Crandell was an exceptionally slick haired and easy fleshing Leonid of Wye son with his dam being a third consecutive generation pathfinder dam. Additionally, Crandell traces five times to Luria of Wye, one of the most efficient and productive Angus cows to have ever lived. Luria was a 1,100lb cow who weaned nearly five tons of live calves in her lifetime, which is about nine times her own body weight. We attribute much of the goodness found in today's Dutch Creek cowherd to Crandell. He was one of the most docile beef bulls we have ever been associated with and this trait has passed on to his progeny. You will find the blood of Crandell multiple times in the pedigrees of each of the bulls selling. This bull works extremely well in a line breeding program as his descendants seem to continually improve as the intensity of his influence rises.
Genomic Enhanced EPDs
All of the bulls selling have genomic enhanced EPDs. DNA markers provide molecular breeding values which are used to enhance the EPDs and improve their accuracy. These genomic enhanced EPDs have the same meaning as data from bulls that have already sired 10 to 36 calves.

Fertility/Disposition
We guarantee the fertility and disposition of each bull selling. All bulls have been fertility tested and have passed a breeding soundness exam.

Health
All bulls have been vaccinated with Viral Shield 6+L5 HB

Veterinarian
Dr. Stan Carnes, MultiGen Reproductive Solutions, Stanford, Kentucky. Phone 606-365-2654 with any questions regarding the breeding soundness of the bulls selling.

Retained Ownership
Dutch Creek is retaining a one-third semen interest in several of the bulls selling. Dutch Creek may, at the buyer's convenience may collect semen from said bull for within herd use. The buyer receives two-thirds interest and full possession and is in no way limited in activities with the bull or his semen. Either party may sell their interest in said bull at any time and is only required to notify the other owner that the transaction has occurred.

Pathfinder Cows
According to Dr. Cliff Lamb of Texas A&M University pregnancy rate has a 4 times greater economic impact than any other trait, and reproductive efficiency is more important than growth or carcass traits for the cow/calf producer. Throughout the sale offering you will see the term "pathfinder cow". A pathfinder cow is a cow specifically designated by the American Angus Association for their exceptional productivity and reproductive efficiency. The extended pedigree of each bull selling contains more than 200 of these pathfinder cows.

Forager 804's dam is a maternal half sister to the Forager 812 bull selling in this sale, both coming from the very same cow family. This cow line, going back six generations, is remarkable in their ability to consistently replicate themselves in all of the economically important traits as well as being long lived. Forager 804 traces six times to Crandell of Wye who was the product of a third consecutive generation Pathfinder cow. He is also double bred to OCC Great Plains, and also traces to Bear of Wye, OCC Judge, OCC Homer and Cedric of Wye. Just like Forager 812, the depth of maternal excellence runs deep in this bull. Forager 806's ancestry traces four times to Crandell of Wye, two times to Bear of Wye, OCC Great Plains, OCC Judge, OCC Homer, and Cedric of Wye.
